The O-Katana Shinken is a handcrafted Japanese sword modeled after the legendary long-bladed swords used by samurai in feudal Japan. Despite its increased size and weight, this O-Katana (meaning "large katana") is exceptionally well-balanced, making it ideal for both display and practical martial arts use.

Forged using the Maru Kitae method, the blade is made of 1060 high carbon steel and clay tempered to create a real Notare-style hamon, which not only enhances the blade’s beauty but also increases its durability and cutting performance. A bohi (fuller) is carved into the blade to reduce weight and improve handling.

This sword is full tang, secured with two mekugi (bamboo pins) for maximum strength and reliability during practice. The tsuka is wrapped in black cotton tsukaito using alternate tsukamaki, with genuine ray skin (Samegawa) underneath. The iron tsuba is traditionally styled and optimized for martial use.

The katana comes in a black lacquered wooden saya and is supplied without sageo, but includes all the traditional construction features found in authentic Japanese swords. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced practitioner, the O-Katana offers unmatched reach, control, and craftsmanship.
