Product Information & Use
Are your katanas suitable for martial arts practice?
Absolutely. YariNoHanzo katanas are produced for the practice of martial arts and are designed with attention to structure, balance, and durability. They are suitable for disciplines such as Iaido and, where appropriate, Tameshigiri.
Are your swords full tang?
Yes. Our swords feature full tang construction, meaning the nakago extends through the tsuka for proper structural integrity.
Are your saya individually custom-fitted to each blade?
Not always on a one-by-one artisan fitting basis. Small internal tolerances may be present, allowing the blade to move slightly inside the saya. This is normal and does not necessarily indicate a defect.
Can I use your katana for blade-to-blade combat?
No. Japanese swords are not intended for blade-to-blade impact. Improper use can damage the blade and create serious safety risks. Training should always be carried out responsibly and, whenever possible, under qualified supervision.
Can the blades rust?
Yes. High-carbon steel can oxidize if not maintained correctly. For this reason, the blade should be cleaned and oiled regularly, especially after handling or use.
Why is there wax on the blade or inside the saya?
A light presence of wax can be normal. It helps protect the wood from moisture and may contribute to preserving the blade during storage and transport. Any residue should be removed during normal maintenance.
How do I choose the correct blade length?
Blade length depends on your height, arm length, school, and training method. As a general reference:
- 160 cm height: approximately 70 cm blade length
- 170 cm height: approximately 73 cm blade length
- 180 cm height: approximately 76 cm blade length
- 190 cm height: approximately 79 cm blade length
When in doubt, we recommend following your instructor’s guidance or the standards of your martial arts school.

What does “Not Available” mean on a product page?
