Hamon Selection

Choose the hamon style and type for your blade.
You can select between a cosmetic hamon (brushed or acid-etched) or a real hamon, created through traditional clay differential hardening—a process where clay is applied to the blade before quenching, producing a natural hardness contrast and a visible temper line.

Visual style or authentic craftsmanship—the choice is yours.

Thumbnail Alt zoom_in
Suguha is a straight hamon pattern, and in this version, it is cosmetically applied using a fine wire brushing technique. This method simulates the appearance of a real temper line without affecting the blade’s heat treatment or performance.
€10.50
Thumbnail Alt zoom_in
Notare is a gently wavy hamon pattern, cosmetically applied using a wire brushing technique. This decorative finish replicates the look of a natural temper line without altering the blade’s structural or heat-treatment properties.
€10.50

Notare is a gently wavy hamon pattern, created here through acid etching. This cosmetic process enhances contrast on the blade surface, simulating the appearance of a real hamon without affecting the blade’s heat treatment or performance.
€17.50

Bohi Selection

Choose the groove style of your blade:

  • With Bohi (hi ari): a single groove that reduces weight and produces the characteristic tachikaze sound during cuts.

  • Without Bohi (hi nashi): a solid blade, slightly heavier and more resistant on impact.

  • Double Bohi (ryō-hi): dual grooves for a lighter feel and a more dynamic aesthetic.

Each option influences both the performance and appearance of your katana.

Thumbnail Alt zoom_in
A blade without hi (hi nashi) has no grooves, resulting in increased weight, structural rigidity, and cutting power. This configuration offers greater durability during impact and a more solid feel during practice or tameshigiri.
€3.50
Thumbnail Alt zoom_in
A blade with bohi (hi ari) features a single groove along the flat of the blade, reducing overall weight and improving handling speed. It also produces the audible tachikaze sound during proper cutting technique, making it useful for form practice and feedback.
€7.00
Thumbnail Alt zoom_in
A blade with double bohi (ryō-hi) features two parallel grooves that reduce weight and improve handling. It produces a lighter tachikaze sound compared to a single bohi, and offers a distinctive look along with enhanced agility during practice.
€14.00

New – Choose Your Type of Hi

Now you can further customize your katana with the new option to select the type of hi!
Choose between two traditional groove styles:

  • Bohi: a long groove that lightens the blade and produces the distinctive tachikaze sound during cuts.

  • Tome Hi: a variation of the bohi that stops before the nakago, offering a cleaner, more traditional look.

Thumbnail Alt zoom_in
Bohi is a long groove that lightens the blade and produces the distinctive tachikaze sound during cuts. It begins on the nakago and continues onto the blade, aiding in balance and feedback during practice.
Thumbnail Alt zoom_in
Tome Hi is a type of bohi that starts approximately 6 cm from the habaki and continues onto the blade. It maintains the benefits of a standard bohi, including reduced weight and the production of the distinctive tachikaze sound during cuts, while offering a cleaner look near the base of the blade.
€10.50

Kissaki Selection

The kissaki is the tip of the blade, essential for both cutting performance and visual style. You can choose between:

  • Chu-kissaki – a standard-sized tip, well-balanced and suitable for most styles.

  • O-kissaki – an extended tip with a longer point, offering greater reach and a more imposing appearance.

Each type affects the blade’s handling and tip dynamics, especially in thrusting and precision work.

Thumbnail Alt zoom_in
Chu-kissaki is the standard-sized blade tip found on most traditional katana. It offers a balanced profile between length and curvature, providing reliable performance in both cutting and thrusting techniques. Ideal for general-purpose use and classical martial arts practice.
€7.00
Thumbnail Alt zoom_in
O-kissaki O-kissaki is an extended blade tip, measuring approximately 9 cm in length. It features a longer and more pronounced point compared to the standard chu-kissaki, enhancing the blade’s reach, cutting surface, and visual presence. Preferred for advanced use and for those seeking a more powerful and dynamic kissaki profile.
€21.00

Tsuba Selection

The tsuba is the hand guard of the katana, traditionally used for protection and balance. Choose from a wide range of shapes and materials, including iron, brass, and alloy models, inspired by classical Japanese styles. Each tsuba influences both the weight distribution and the aesthetic identity of the sword.

Tsuka Length Selection

The tsuka is the handle of the katana, and its length influences grip, control, and overall balance. The measurement refers to the total assembled length, including both fuchi and kashira. A longer tsuka provides more leverage and space for two-handed use, while a shorter tsuka offers quicker handling.

Since all our blades are full tang, the nakago (tang) length is directly matched to the chosen tsuka length, ensuring structural integrity and traditional construction.

Nagasa Selection

Nagasa is the effective blade length, measured from the tip (kissaki) to the machi (the notch at the beginning of the tang), excluding the habaki. It determines the blade’s reach, balance point, and cutting dynamics. Proper nagasa selection is essential for aligning the sword’s performance with the user’s height, style, and martial application.

Sori Selection

Sori is the curvature of the blade, measured as the depth of the arc between the spine and the edge. It affects cutting angle, draw speed, and overall handling. A deeper sori enhances slicing performance and traditional aesthetics, while a shallower sori offers faster thrusting and modern balance.

Motohaba Selection

Motohaba refers to the width of the blade at its base, near the habaki. It influences the overall mass, cutting power, and structural strength of the katana. A wider motohaba provides greater durability and presence, while a narrower one offers lighter handling and faster response.

Sakihaba Selection

Sakihaba is the width of the blade near the tip (kissaki). It affects the blade’s taper, point balance, and cutting efficiency. A wider sakihaba offers a more powerful tip and visual presence, while a narrower one improves speed and precision in thrusting or fast movements.

Motokasane Selection

Motokasane refers to the thickness of the blade at its base, near the habaki. It influences the blade’s overall rigidity, strength, and weight distribution. A thicker motokasane provides more durability and power in cutting, while a thinner one allows for lighter handling and faster movement.

Sakikasane Selection

Sakikasane refers to the thickness of the blade at the kissaki (tip area). It influences the structural strength and cutting efficiency at the point. A thicker sakikasane provides a more durable tip for heavy use, while a thinner one allows for finer precision and reduced tip weight.

Add a personal touch to your katana with a custom engraving.
Choose to engrave a word, phrase, date, symbol, or kanji on the blade to make your katana truly unique. The engraving is meticulously crafted, honoring both tradition and personal expression.

Important Information

To request a blade engraving, you will need to send us by email a high-resolution file in PDF or JPEG format, clearly indicating:

  • The text or design to be engraved

  • The desired placement on the blade

Engraving Placement Rules

  • If the blade has a bohi (fuller or groove), the engraving can only be applied to the flat section of the blade, known as the hira-ji.

  • If the blade does not have a bohi, the engraving can also be placed on the shinogi-ji — the angled, raised area between the flat of the blade (hira-ji) and the ridge line (shinogi), running along both sides of the blade.
