The Araki Iaito Katana is a premium, handcrafted practice sword from YariNoHanzo’s prestigious Superior Series, ideal for serious Iaido, Kenjutsu, and classical Japanese martial arts practitioners. First introduced in 2007 as a top-tier training blade, the Araki Iaito has been continuously refined over the years to offer unmatched authenticity, elegance, and performance.
Forged using the Maru Kitae method, the blade is made of 1095 high carbon steel, carefully shaped and polished but unsharpened to ensure safety during dojo use. Its construction mirrors that of a live blade, with the same geometry and weight distribution—making it perfect for kata, nukitsuke, and traditional forms. The blade includes no bohi, preserving a realistic weight and delivering a balanced, smooth swing during training.
This katana features a full tang construction, reinforced with two mekugi (bamboo pins) for superior durability. The handle is wrapped with black silk tsukaito, in the Hinerimaki style with hishigami, ensuring both grip stability and traditional aesthetics. Underneath, the ray skin Samegawa provides added structure and authenticity.
The defining element of the Araki Iaito is its Nami (wave) themed koshirae, inspired by Japanese museum-preserved originals. The fuchi, kashira, and tsuba replicate traditional wave motifs, blending strength, elegance, and fluidity—a tribute to the sword’s namesake. These finely detailed fittings make the Araki not only a training tool, but also a collectible piece.
The saya is finished in deep black lacquer with sections of ray skin inlay, enhanced by a buffalo horn koiguchi and metal kurikata and kojiri, all in the Nami theme. This level of craftsmanship ensures visual harmony with the rest of the sword and adds durability for years of repeated use.
Supplied with an elegant burgundy cotton bag (sageo not included), the Araki Iaito is a choice of distinction. Every unit undergoes YariNoHanzo’s strict quality control, ensuring that you receive a katana that is safe, authentic, and ready for serious martial training.
