The Araki Katana Shinken is a true masterpiece from YariNoHanzo’s Superior Series, embodying the pinnacle of modern Japanese sword craftsmanship. First designed in 2007, this model has undergone continuous refinement to become one of the most admired blades in our catalog. It is a katana that bridges the gap between traditional samurai artistry and high-performance martial use.
Crafted with a Maru Kitae structure and forged from 1095 high carbon steel, the Araki Katana features a clay-tempered blade with a genuine Gunome Choji hamon—a stunning and dynamic temper pattern that reflects the soul of classical Japanese metallurgy. The blade is made without a bohi, preserving its full weight and cutting authority, making it ideal for Tameshigiri and Battodo.
This is a full tang sword, securely fitted with two mekugi (bamboo pins) for superior durability and handling. The tsuka is wrapped in black silk tsukaito using Hinerimaki-style wrapping with hishigami, over genuine ray skin (Samegawa). The grip is firm, precise, and perfectly balanced for both beginners and experienced swordsmen.
One of the defining features of the Araki Katana is its Nami (“waves”) themed koshirae, inspired by oceanic power and fluidity. The fuchi, kashira, and tsuba are accurately reproduced based on an original piece preserved in a Japanese museum, offering historical authenticity rarely found in production swords.
The saya is a work of art in itself—black lacquered and partially wrapped in real ray skin, with a buffalo horn koiguchi and metal kojiri and kurikata that match the wave motif. Every detail has been considered to honor tradition while elevating the sword’s overall presence and durability.
Supplied with an elegant burgundy cotton sword bag (sageo not included), the Araki Katana is not just a weapon—it’s a collector’s treasure, a martial artist’s trusted companion, and a symbol of refined discipline. Each sword has passed YariNoHanzo’s strict quality control, ensuring authenticity, balance, and exceptional cutting performance.
Whether displayed with reverence or used in the dojo, the Araki Katana Shinken delivers on every level: aesthetics, functionality, and historical reverence.
