The Sakai Wakizashi Shinken stands as a flagship model in the YariNoHanzo Superior Series — a refined fusion of functional excellence and minimalist elegance. Designed for Iaido, Kendo, and Kenjutsu, this handcrafted wakizashi is revered by martial artists and collectors seeking maximum performance without visual excess.
The clean, smooth koshirae (mountings) of the Sakai Wakizashi are inspired by traditional swordsmithing aesthetics, offering a sleek, understated presence. While it avoids flamboyant ornamentation, its true power lies in its uncompromising quality and unmatched handling. This sword is imitated by many, but only YariNoHanzo delivers the authentic original — forged with intention, balance, and martial precision.
The blade is hand-forged in Maru Kitae from 1095 high carbon steel, renowned for its cutting power and durability. It is clay tempered using traditional techniques to produce a vivid Gunome Choji hamon, giving the blade a striking, wavy pattern along its edge. A bohi (groove) lightens the blade while allowing the practitioner to hear the tachikaze (sound of the cut), making it ideal for precision-based training and real-world application.
This razor-sharp blade is built for battle and forged to last. It is a full tang construction, secured with one Mekugi (bamboo peg) inside the tsuka (handle) for a rock-solid, combat-ready structure.
The tsuka is wrapped in black silk tsukaito, following the Hinerimaki wrapping style, with hishigami inserted underneath to preserve the shape and structure. Beneath it lies real ray skin Samegawa, enhancing grip and ensuring an authentic traditional feel.
The saya (scabbard) is finished in high-gloss black lacquer and reinforced with real buffalo horn components at the koiguchi, kojiri, and kurikata — rare features in production swords, typically found only on custom blades.
The Sakai Wakizashi is supplied without sageo, allowing each practitioner to customize it to their school’s standards. It includes an elegant burgundy cotton bag, suitable for secure transport or display.
Every piece passes YariNoHanzo’s strict quality control, ensuring that the sword you receive is both martial-grade and collectible-quality. The Sakai Wakizashi Shinken is a weapon of precision, simplicity, and power — a blade for those who understand that true strength doesn’t need to shout.
