Sakai Special Edition: green Japanese silk and a genuine Gunome Choji hamon
Green silk and a black Kuroro saya define the clean, understated character of the Sakai Katana Shinken – Superior Special Edition. This handmade katana combines a practical, uncluttered mounting with a clay-tempered blade, offering a distinctive choice for practitioners and collectors who appreciate refined details.
1095 high-carbon steel with a real Gunome Choji hamon
The sharp blade features Maru kitae construction in 1095 high-carbon steel and clay tempering. Its authentic Gunome Choji hamon is highlighted by Japanese-style polishing, while a single bohi completes the blade profile.
The Sakai has a 70.5 cm nagasa, a sori of 2 cm and a weight of 980 g without the saya. The full-tang blade is secured to the handle by two bamboo mekugi.
Green silk tsuka-ito made in Japan
The 28.5 cm tsuka is wrapped in green silk tsuka-ito made in Japan. An alternating Hinerimaki pattern with Hishigami gives the wrapping its traditional arrangement, complemented by genuine rayskin samegawa. The green silk provides the signature colour of this special edition.
Black Kuroro saya and bronze fittings
A Mokko tsuba is paired with bronze fuchi and kashira, maintaining the Sakai's restrained appearance. The 77 cm black Kuroro lacquered wooden saya features a koiguchi, kurikata and kojiri made from genuine buffalo horn.
This is a sharp shinken for appropriate Battodo and Tameshigiri practice by trained users, as well as collection and display. It is not an unsharpened iaito.
