The Sakai Katana Shinken is a masterpiece in YariNoHanzo’s Superior Series, representing the finest standards of functional Japanese sword craftsmanship. Designed for advanced martial artists and collectors, this katana merges historical accuracy, modern forging precision, and authentic aesthetics.
Hand-forged using the Maru Kitae technique with 1095 high carbon steel, the blade is clay tempered and features a striking and authentic Gunome Choji hamon. This beautiful wave-like temper line is the result of differential heat treatment, preserving both strength and flexibility. The blade also includes a bohi (fuller) for reduced weight and improved balance—ideal for dynamic martial arts such as Iaido, Kendo, and Kenjutsu.
The blade is full tang, securely mounted to the tsuka with two bamboo mekugi, ensuring structural integrity and reliability even during intense practice. The handle is wrapped in black silk tsukaito, following the traditional Hinerimaki style with hishigami, providing a tight, durable grip. The underlayer is made from genuine ray skin (Samegawa), offering superior control and authenticity.
The koshirae (mounting) is minimal yet refined, inspired by traditional fittings displayed in Japanese museums. The tsuba, fuchi and kashira all feature the Sakai kamon (family crest)—an homage to samurai heritage and noble lineage. These details not only enhance the visual appeal of the sword but also connect it to real historical context.
The black lacquered saya is complemented by buffalo horn fittings (koiguchi, kojiri, and kurikata), offering durability and elegance. The katana comes with a burgundy cotton sword bag and is supplied without sageo, allowing the practitioner to customize it to personal preference.
This katana has passed the rigorous YariNoHanzo quality control process, ensuring you receive a blade that is not only visually stunning but also fully functional, balanced, and ready for training or display.
Whether you are a practitioner of traditional Japanese martial arts or a serious sword collector, the Sakai Katana Shinken offers an unparalleled blend of performance, heritage, and craftsmanship.
