The Kimura Katana Shinken is one of the standout swords in the YariNoHanzo Superior Series, masterfully forged for martial artists who seek a perfect balance between tradition, cutting performance, and authentic historical design. Inspired by the aesthetics and proportions of blades used during the Bakumatsu Era (late Edo period), this katana merges history and precision into one exceptional sword.
Hand-forged using the Maru Kitae construction method, the blade is made from premium 1095 high carbon steel, clay tempered to create a stunning and functional Gunome Choji hamon. The differentially hardened blade features a visible temper line and is equipped with a bohi (fuller), which not only reduces weight but also produces the iconic tachikaze sound, ideal for feedback during form and cutting practice.
The Kimura Katana is fully functional and extremely sharp, crafted for the demands of Iaido, Kenjutsu, and Kendo kata. The blade’s proportions are historically accurate to the Bakumatsu period, offering a responsive yet commanding feel. A full tang construction, secured with two mekugi (bamboo pins), ensures durability and stability even under regular martial use.
The tsuka features a premium black silk tsukaito, wrapped in the alternate Katate Maki style—a battle-oriented wrapping technique used by samurai for superior grip during combat. Hishigami inserts preserve the structure and tightness of the wrap, while genuine Samegawa (ray skin) underneath ensures authenticity and long-lasting grip performance.
The koshirae is elegant and steeped in tradition, modeled after a museum-preserved Japanese sword mount, offering visual sophistication and historical reverence. The tsuba, fuchi, and kashira are finely detailed, tying the sword to a noble lineage of Japanese craftsmanship.
The black lacquered saya includes high-grade buffalo horn fittings on the koiguchi, kojiri, and kurikata—both aesthetically refined and structurally resilient. The katana is supplied without sageo, allowing for personal customization based on school or practitioner preference. It also includes a burgundy cotton sword bag for safe and elegant storage.
Each Kimura Katana Shinken is subject to the stringent YariNoHanzo quality control process, ensuring a perfect blend of cutting ability, balance, and historical accuracy. Whether you are a dedicated martial artist or a collector of traditional Japanese swords, this katana offers the elegance of the past with the cutting performance of the modern forge.
