The Kamakiri Wakizashi Shinken is a high-level, sharp Japanese short sword designed for advanced martial artists and serious collectors alike. A cornerstone in the YariNoHanzo Superior Series, it is crafted with uncompromising attention to detail, technical refinement, and cultural authenticity.
The name "Kamakiri" means praying mantis, symbolizing precision, patience, and lethal speed — all characteristics embodied in this finely tuned blade. The koshirae (mountings) are an accurate reproduction of antique Japanese fittings preserved in several national museums, featuring the elegant and feared Kamakiri motif, a rare design in sword-making and exclusive to this model.
The blade is forged using the Maru Kitae construction technique, crafted from 1095 high carbon steel — known for its edge retention and strength. It is clay tempered using traditional methods, producing a vivid Gunome Choji hamon, visible along the blade’s edge. A bohi (groove) lightens the sword for faster handling while creating the iconic tachikaze sound with each precise movement.
Though shorter than a katana, this wakizashi is perfectly balanced and built to perform in Tameshigiri, Kenjutsu, and Battodo, offering superior agility and control. The full tang blade is anchored into the tsuka with a single mekugi (bamboo peg), ensuring durability and structural integrity for serious training.
The tsuka (handle) is wrapped in brown silk tsukaito, tied in Hinerimaki style with hishigami inserts, providing an excellent grip and aesthetic. Beneath the wrap lies real Samegawa (ray skin), enhancing the sword’s traditional feel and value.
The saya (scabbard) is hand-lacquered in deep black and features buffalo horn fittings at the kurikata, kojiri, and koiguchi — premium details rarely found outside custom sword-making.
This wakizashi is supplied without sageo, allowing users to customize it based on their ryu or personal style. It also comes with an elegant burgundy cotton bag for safe storage and transport.
As with all YariNoHanzo swords, the Kamakiri Wakizashi undergoes strict quality control, ensuring excellence in finish, balance, and function. It is a sword imitated by many, equaled by none — available only from YariNoHanzo.
