Kamakiri Special Edition: praying mantis fittings, Japanese silk and white rayskin
The Kamakiri Katana Shinken – Superior Special Edition brings together a praying mantis-themed mounting, black-brown Japanese silk and genuine white rayskin. The contrast between the silk wrapping and white samegawa gives this handmade katana a distinctive appearance, complemented by a genuine Gunome Choji hamon and a black lacquered saya.
1095 high-carbon steel with a real Gunome Choji hamon
The sharp blade features Maru kitae construction in 1095 high-carbon steel and clay tempering. Its authentic Gunome Choji hamon is highlighted by Japanese-style polishing, while a single bohi completes the blade profile.
The Kamakiri has a 71 cm nagasa, a sori of 2 cm and a weight of 980 g without the saya. The full-tang blade is secured to the tsuka by two bamboo mekugi.
Black-brown Japanese silk over genuine white samegawa
The 27 cm tsuka is wrapped in black-brown Japanese silk tsuka-ito, using an alternating Hinerimaki pattern with Hishigami. Genuine white rayskin samegawa creates a clear contrast with the darker wrapping, making the handle one of the defining features of this special edition.
Praying mantis-themed koshirae and refined metal details
The Kamakiri praying mantis motif gives the mounting its individual character. A Mokko tsuba is paired with copper fuchi and kashira. The habaki, seppa and shitodome are made from silver-plated brass, adding contrasting accents to the sword's darker elements.
The 77 cm black Kuroro lacquered wooden saya features a koiguchi, kurikata and kojiri made from genuine buffalo horn. The sword is supplied without a sageo.
This is a sharp shinken for appropriate Tameshigiri, Battodo and Kenjutsu practice by trained users, as well as collection and display. It is not an unsharpened iaito.
