The Dotanuki Katana Shinken represents the pinnacle of YariNoHanzo’s sword-making tradition, part of the brand’s Superior Line. Inspired by the Dotanuki blades used by elite samurai during the Bakumatsu period (1853–1867), this katana merges historical authenticity with modern performance, built to meet the demands of serious martial artists and collectors alike.
Forged using the Maru Kitae technique, the blade is crafted from 1060 high carbon steel and clay tempered to produce a genuine Suguha hamon—a clean and traditional temper line that reflects discipline, sharpness, and heritage. A finely carved bohi (fuller) improves balance and reduces weight, enabling precise control during Tameshigiri, Kenjutsu, or any classical Koryu training.
This sword features full tang construction, secured with two mekugi (bamboo pins) to ensure uncompromising strength. The tsuka is wrapped in black silk tsukaito, using the alternate Hinerimaki style with hishigami, for perfect tightness, improved grip, and superior ergonomics. The core is covered in genuine ray skin (Samegawa), enhancing durability and authenticity.
The black lacquered saya features real buffalo horn fittings at the koiguchi, kojiri, and kurikata, not only preserving traditional aesthetics but also increasing resilience. Supplied with an elegant burgundy cotton bag (without sageo), the Dotanuki Shinken is a katana of refined strength and noble simplicity—made to cut, made to last.
Each piece passes YariNoHanzo’s strict quality control, guaranteeing an exceptional standard of craftsmanship and cutting performance. Whether you’re a dedicated practitioner or a discerning collector, this katana offers an unmatched fusion of form, function, and legacy.
