The Akechi Katana Iaito is a top-tier training sword in the YariNoHanzo Superior Series, created for martial artists who seek the historical realism and handling of a battlefield katana — but in a safe, unsharpened format for regular dojo practice. Inspired by the weight, proportions, and aesthetics of late Sengoku-period swords, this iaito provides a uniquely powerful presence while preserving full training functionality.
The blade is forged using a rare and high-end Shihozume Kitae construction, combining layers of 1045, 1060, and 1095 high carbon steel. While the blade is not sharpened, it delivers the authentic weight and feedback of a real sword. The traditional lamination method not only provides strength but also mimics the appearance of real cutting blades — ideal for practitioners transitioning to or from live blades.
The blade has no bohi, contributing to its noticeable weight — preferred by many for training accuracy and realism. A visible, aesthetically striking Gunome Choji hamon remains, thanks to the clay tempering process, allowing the sword to retain its traditional beauty.
The full tang blade is mounted with two mekugi (bamboo pins) to ensure structural security during use. The tsuka is wrapped in premium black silk tsukaito, using the Hineri Maki style, which offers a solid grip and refined visual appeal. Black Samegawa (genuine ray skin) lies beneath, and hishigami inserts are used to preserve tightness and alignment.
One of the defining aspects of the Akechi Katana Iaito is its koshirae, which is a faithful reproduction of a real historical mount preserved at the Tokyo National Museum. The fittings – tsuba, fuchi, and kashira – are refined, minimalist, and imbued with authenticity, making this sword a functional and collectible piece.
The black lacquered saya features real buffalo horn at the koiguchi, kojiri, and kurikata, adding both protection and class. The sword is supplied without sageo, allowing the practitioner to mount it according to their style or tradition. It comes with an elegant burgundy cotton sword bag for storage and safe transportation.
Each unit is individually tested through YariNoHanzo's rigorous quality control process, ensuring ideal balance, finish, and performance. Whether you're a committed Iaido student or an advanced martial artist, the Akechi Katana Iaito is a reliable and inspiring tool — marrying tradition, structure, and history in one exceptional blade.
