Akechi Special Edition: a powerful Shihozume-forged battlefield katana

The Akechi Katana Shinken – Superior Special Edition is designed for those who appreciate a strong, substantial sword with a commanding historical character. Its koshirae faithfully reproduces the design of a piece preserved in the Tokyo National Museum, giving this handmade katana a distinctive connection to Japanese sword tradition.

Heavy, balanced and fully functional, the Akechi combines a robust composite-steel blade with black-and-gold silk, genuine rayskin and buffalo-horn saya fittings.

Shihozume composite blade with a real Gunome Choji hamon

The sharp blade is forged using the Shihozume kitae method, combining 1045, 1060 and 1095 high-carbon steels. Traditional clay tempering produces an authentic Gunome Choji hamon, enhanced by Japanese-style polishing.

The blade has a full-tang construction and no bohi. Its substantial build provides a powerful and stable feel, while the two bamboo mekugi securely connect the blade to the handle.

Black-and-gold silk and genuine black rayskin

The 28.5 cm tsuka is wrapped in black-and-gold silk tsuka-ito using an alternating Hineri Maki pattern with Hishigami. Genuine black rayskin samegawa reinforces the handle and complements the contrasting silk wrapping.

Historic-inspired koshirae and buffalo-horn saya fittings

The Akechi features a Shin-no-Marugata tsuba with bronze fuchi and kashira. The habaki and other fittings complement the strong, understated character of the sword.

The 82 cm black Kuroro / Kuroro Ishime lacquered saya is fitted with a koiguchi, kurikata and kojiri made from genuine buffalo horn. The result is a durable, elegant saya with a deep black finish.

This is a sharp shinken intended for collection, display and appropriate martial arts practice by trained users, including Battodo, Iaido, Kenjutsu and Tameshigiri. It is not an unsharpened iaito.
